Head Coach – Sam Stoddard
Sam has loved biking since he was 4-years old, and his best friend pushed him down a hill on his first orange, hard-tired bike. He raced road bikes as a teenager but thought that everyone doing it was too serious, and he just wanted to have fun. When he was introduced to mountain biking in the late eighties, it was love at first ride. He enjoyed getting away from the city and the laid back/have fun attitude of mountain bikers. In college, Sam was the president of the outdoors club at Southern Utah University and introduced people to outdoor activities every weekend. He considered making a career of it, but so far he hasn’t met anyone willing to pay him to play in the dirt. After graduating from college, getting married and starting a family, he moved back to southern Utah and started hitting the trails as often as possible. He joined NICA and starting coaching with the Flying Monkeys in 2015 and has been the head coach of the Dixie Flyers since 2019. He is living his dream of getting more people to experience the joys of the outdoors. He still has to go to work, though (for money to spend on bikes, of course). Say hi when you see him; he’s the guy in the long-sleeved plaid shirt.

Race Day Director – Brian Tritle
Brian is the proud father of 2 Dixie Flyers mountain bikers (and 1 more soon!) and has been mountain biking for over 25 years. Bikes have been an important part of his life since he was 6 – both for fun and for commuting – and he’s excited to share the cycling lifestyle with his kids and yours.
Brian volunteered as a ride guide with the Flying Monkeys Jr Devo’s starting in 2016, and he’s helped with practice rides and race day logistics through the transition to Dixie Flyers MTB. He’s excited to take on the role of Race Day Director this year.
Race days in the Utah High School Cycling League are second to none. They are big, colorful, fun, and very well organized. A major component to their organized nature is Volunteers. The league and our Dixie Flyers MTB team need your help to make race days awesome for your kids. And I promise, you can help and still have a fun day watching the races with your families, too.
Go Flyers!
